Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy believes that music and art are important and powerful aspects of our humanity that can open our minds to endless opportunities. Through the power of music and art, our students will develop stronger leadership and teamwork skills and experience the power of self-esteem and self-discipline while enjoying the beauty of artistic expression.
The Academy Fine Arts curriculum offers weekly Music classes for all students including Voice, Percussion, Bells, Tin whistle, Glockenspiel, Violin, music history, genres, and contemporary music. Students in our Early Childhood Program also learn about Musical Theater. We offer weekly Art Classes for students in Grades K2 -8 where students focus on shapes, colors, art forms, portraits, landscapes, and arts and crafts.
The Academy also offers an Extended Day Fine Arts Enrichment Program where students receive 45 minute weekly classes in:
Dance Program - Through the medium of dance, students in Pre-K - Grade 8 will explore International dance forms which include Salsa, Meringue, Bachata, African Dance, and Hip Hop.
Campus Chorus - After school Vocal Development program where students learn the art of Choral Singing. Students at all campuses work on the same inspirational songs so they can perform together throughout the year while representing the Academy.
The Violin Program - Now in its fifth year, this program has grown to be the largest school strings program in the area. Through our partnership with New England Conservatory and Suzuki Institute of Boston, small group classes are offered for students in Pre-K - Grade 8.
The Guitar Program - These classes are a fun introduction to acoustic guitar for students in Grades 2 - 8. Students advance quickly in these group classes as they study different genres while chords and strumming styles are developed.
The Keyboard Program - Small group classes are taught to students in Grades 1 - 8 where the child is introduced to the fundamentals of keyboard.
*Please note that classes are carefully crafted based on child’s age and level of instruction with classes at 2:45 primarily for beginner students. Classes at 3:45 are reserved for beginner and intermediate level and classes at 4:45 are typically reserved for advanced students. As students progress on their chosen instrument, they are eligible for private instruction in our Gifted and Talented Program based on teacher recommendation.
