Welcome to the Fine Arts page of the Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy! Check back for updates about our Music, Art, and Theatre Arts programs.

The Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy Fine Arts Department strives to provide excellence in the instruction of the fundamentals of music education for all Academy students. Students produce music, art, and theater arts of exceptional quality. For ninety minutes per week, students receive in class Fine Arts instruction.

Pre-K through K2 students attend weekly Music and Theater Arts classes
Grade 1 through Grade 8 students attend weekly Music and Art classes

Music

Every student in the Academy attends weekly Music classes for forty five minutes per week. The Music Program includes Kodaly Kindermusik and Solfege, classes in bells, percussion, glockenspiels, recorder, tin whistle, violin, music history, and theater arts. The Academy is the only urban Catholic school to incorporate a violin program as part of the Music curriculum.

Each month, students participate and perform in monthly Liturgies, with selected grades representing each campus as leaders of song. All students at our Academy perform in two shows per year to tremendous praise from parents, families, and our community. Students have also been invited to take part in various events, such as performing for the President of Ireland on her trip to the United States last year.

The Academy Music Program is partnered with the New England Conservatory, Berklee College of Music, the Discovery Ensemble, and the Boston City Singers. Throughout the course of the year, students at the Academy attend wonderful performances, concerts, and workshops by these organizations. These enrichment programs include orchestras, soloists, chamber groups, vocal quartets, string quartets, jazz ensembles, children's operas, and more.

Art

Our Art students produce work of exceptional quality, incorporating water colors, stills, arts and crafts and art history in the classroom. Last April, eight Academy students received highest honors at the Boston Public Library Art Competition. Students were honored by the Honorable Thomas M. Menino, Mayor of Boston.

Coming Soon!

  • 6th grade students will work together to perform God Spell later this year!
  • The Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy String Ensemble will begin!
  • Auditions will be held for the second year of the Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy Choir!

Discovery Ensemble Performs for Academy Students at the Strand Theatre

Students of the Academy stand on stage with members of the Discovery Ensemble, who preformed an exclusive private performance for the Academy at the Strand Theatre this fall.  Grades 3 through 8 from all five campuses were treated to this hour long special from the orchestra.  The Ensemble is made up of students from the New England Conservatory.  The Academy would like to thank the Discovery Ensemble for their wonderful performance.  We look forward to many future concerts!
