Why Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy?

Many may wonder, why Catholic education?

Catholic education is based on the premise that every child has strengths, God-given talents and interests to be encouraged and developed. The benefits to a strong Catholic education are many. Studies show that Catholic school students consistently score higher in most areas of study than their peers in public schools. Approximately 60 percent of eighth grade graduates from Catholic Schools enroll in Catholic high schools and 95 percent of Catholic high school graduates enroll in post-secondary school. In regards to faculty, Catholic school teachers have a long tenure and they see Catholic schools as part of a personal mission and ministry. In addition to an exceptional education and devoted faculty, parents desire their children to benefit from the value-based, faith formation that Catholic schools provide.

Catholic schools are safe places to enroll children, having good discipline and providing strong moral development for students. Catholic schools have traditionally welcomed those new to our country and community. Although our faith formation programs are focused on Catholicism, a child need not be of the Catholic faith to attend. In fact 29 percent of students enrolled in the Dorchester/Mattapan Catholic schools are not of the Catholic faith.

Across all grade levels, every student at Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy experiences an academic program rich in learning.  Our Early Childhood program develops language, early literacy and socialization skills with content-learning in math, science, and social studies.  The Talented and Gifted math programs in grades three and four provide our students with numerous advanced work opportunities.  The Resource Rooms on all campuses allow students to learn in small settings to ensure mastery and understanding.  And, the middle school Latin and Algebra programs offer our students a higher degree of readiness as they prepare for the rigors of their secondary education.

Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy builds upon the strong Catholic faith taught and enhance the academic environment for all students in our school. Our mission is to help these students so they can truly develop into strong individuals guided by faith and knowledge.
